Adrian Spurr

Sculptor | Printmaker | Educator | Curator

My artwork and its making is a moveable feast. There are so many different media that I am fascinated by I think a single lifetime will barely be enough. Add to this my interest in working with other artists and, particularly in terms of print media, helping those artists achieve their goals and there is even less time in a week. Then there is the curating and the community focus that comes with BIG Sculpture and the hours and hours that are invested into that project. Oh, I should also mention the ancient and beautiful Wimmera landscape into which  I have been putting down roots since 2002. But for now, every spare moment is invested in an exploration and portrayal of the human head. It is an organic structure of mind boggling complexity that can also act as as a vehicle for the telling of profound narratives. How, by carving this form in marble, I humbly believe I experience some of the same struggles as those great figurative sculptors of the past and how, by doing so, I can marvel at their inventiveness and intellectual stamina.
