Australian Anubis
A recurrent aspect of my work is its capacity for narrative development. Originally cast as a ‘Head of a Kangaroo’ and exhibited as such, it wasn’t long before these bronze sculptures developed an ‘Anubis like’ personality. When invited to exhibit in the four windows of the Brighton Art Gallery in Melbourne, I combined four Roo heads with an assemblage of objects with the jackal headed, (Australian) God of the Dead in mind.
